Job Background
Binaries from LAMOST (Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopy Telescope) mid-resolution survey (MRS) in collaboration with Prof. HAN Zhanwen's group at the Yunnan Observatories.
LAMOST can monitor more than three thousand targets per exposure. LAMOST-MRS (R ~ 7500) is planned to observe 3,000,000 sources in a five-year operation, with two arms covering the wavelength ranges of 630–680 nm and 495–535 nm, respectively. Presently LAMOST-MRS has finished a one-year commissioning and a one-year regular observation since September 2017 and obtained more than 1,410,000 high-quality spectra.
Responsibilities
-
The researcher will be directly involved with the use of LAMOST-MRS data to do binary- related research. (~60%)
-
The researcher will assist in mentoring graduate/PhD students in use of LAMOST-MRS data and other observational data for the purpose of investigating basic properties of binary population e.g binary fraction, period and mass-ratio distribution and searching for binary-related peculiar stars/candidates. (~30%)
-
The researcher will attend and present analysis results in collaboration meetings and lead writing of scientific papers. Some national and international travel may be required. (~10%)
Qualifications
PhD in Astrophysics. We prefer applicants who have a strong observation background and some experience with the use of observation data, especially from large spectroscopy surveys.
Pay Compensation and Benefits Included
We offer a salary of 200,000-300,000 RMB Yuan per year and an apartment at the Campus of the Yunnan Observatories. The position is for two years initially and can be extended up to four years. Research expenses, including conference/observing travel, will be supported.
