Since January the 5th, SDIMM, an apparatus set specialising in seeing measurements, has been deployed at the Taishan Station at the South Pole. This was the first time that seeing measurements have been carried out at the South Pole in human history. This project was carried out in collaboration with Nanjing University and the State Oceanic Administration.

　　The South Pole has excellent seeing parameters at night, and is possibly the best site for ground-based telescopes in this regard. Due to the effect of polar days, it is also regarded as an ideal location for observing the sun. However, since the seeing during polar days is drastically different from that during polar nights, a thorough assessment of daytime seeing is required.

　　The SDIMM system is expected to conduct measurements until February, and will gather information concerning atmospheric turbulence as well as seeing in general.
